  • DESCRIPTION
    Jean Louis Gobbaerts (28 September 1835 – 5 May 1886) was a famous pianist, piano teacher and composer from the Belgian Romantic era. Gobbaerts published much of his work under the pseudonym 'Streabbog' (Gobbaerts spelled backwards), as well as some works under the names Ludovic and Levi. Popular and successful in his day, Gobbaerts published over 1200 compositions for piano. Gobbaert's method book and studies remain popular in the modern repertoire. Gobbaerts was born in Antwerp. He was a student of the Brussels Conservatory. He spent much of his career as a pianist and piano teacher in Brussels. He died at the age of 50 in Saint-Gilles, near Brussels.
