  • DESCRIPTION

Ludwig van Beethoven, wrote 32 piano sonatas between 1795 and 1822. Hans von Bulow called them "The New Testament" of piano literature (Johann Sebastian Bach's The Well - Tempered Clavier is "The Old Testament").

Beethoven's piano sonatas are considered the first cycle of large piano pieces suitable for both private and public performance. The first who performed all the sonatas in a concert series was the conductor, composer and virtuoso pianist Hans von Bulow. The first complete recording is by Artur Schnabel for His Master's Voice label.
